Sheraton Saigon Grand Opera Hotel has officially achieved LEED Gold Certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), one of the world’s most respected green building rating systems, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

The milestone makes the Dong Khoi landmark the first and only hotel under Marriott International in Vietnam to earn this prestigious certification. This is the result of more than two decades of persistent operational improvement, and reflects a broader shift across the global hospitality industry – where a premium experience today is measured not only by design, service, or location, but by efficient operations, environmental responsibility, and the ability to sustain a consistent experience at the highest standard every day.

Mr. Julian Wong, General Manager of Sheraton Saigon Grand Opera Hotel, shared: “Achieving LEED Gold marks an important milestone on our long-term strategy in advancing our sustainability initiatives. We believe that a premium, refined experience today lies not in service or design alone, but in our responsibility to the environment and to the community we have called home for 23 years. It also reflects Sheraton Saigon Grand Opera Hotel’s commitment to keep pace with the growing global demand for sustainable travel.”

LEED Gold – A global benchmark for sustainable operations

LEED is a globally recognized green building rating system focused on criteria such as energy efficiency, water conservation, indoor environmental quality, waste management, material selection, and long-term operational sustainability. Sheraton Saigon Grand Opera Hotel is proud to have earned LEED v4.1 Operations & Maintenance (O+M) – Gold Certification, a framework designed specifically for buildings already in operation. Unlike certifications that focus on design or new construction, LEED O+M evaluates how a hotel performs under real-world conditions — through continuous monitoring of measured data, resource-use efficiency, and the ability to maintain stable operating standards in day-to-day activity.

At Sheraton Saigon Grand Opera Hotel, LEED Gold is the fruit of years of persistent investment and continuous improvement, achieved through close coordination across the engineering, operations, safety, housekeeping, culinary, and hotel management teams.

Rather than rolling out short-term initiatives, the hotel focused on building a long-term, sustainable operating system capable of stable, real-world performance. Measures implemented include optimizing air-conditioning and energy-efficient lighting, monitoring electricity consumption in real time, improving water-use efficiency, enhancing indoor air quality, and strengthening waste sorting and reduction across the property.

In parallel, the hotel advances a sustainability-minded approach to business management across many other areas of operation – responsible sourcing of ingredients, reducing food waste, encouraging waste segregation, and raising internal awareness of sustainable operations among its associates.
